Kinver Colts 4
On the face of it given the two sides’ league positions this was a disappointing result but the improvement in the visitors since the reverse encounter earlier in the season was huge.
As for the Comrades, their effort and application (which were excellent as always) were undone by individual errors. Kinver scored early and doubled their lead half way through the first half in which Bewdley had the strong wind at their backs. The strength and size of the Kinver side meant they were better able to deal with playing into the wind. Bewdley did manage to test the visitor’s keeper on a couple of occasions but were 2 down at the break.
The conditions meant that Kinver had much more possession and control of the game in the second half and they added two more goals to their tally. The scoreline would have been worse but for Lewis Andrews’ spectacular goal-line clearance mid-way through the half, and a magnificent lastr ditch tackle by Charlie Lloyd Perks.
In the last five minutes Comrades produced a their best passing move of the season with Drew Gooding and Ian Coulthard exchanging passes and producing a threatening moment in the Kinver box. This lifted the home side’s confidence and they had a succession of three corners but couldn’t find the back of Kinver’s net.
Man of the match: Ian Coulthard. Great passing and confidence in the closing minutes carried some threat to Kinver. Great stuff Ian!

Areley Kings Colts 1
Bewdley Comrades 2
Following on from their triumphant display last time out Comrades gained a deserved second win of the season on a blustery day at Areley Kings.
Playing with the wind Bewdley started very strongly with Ian Coulthard and Elian Riley constantly threatening down the flanks. It was no surprise when Elian curled a left footed shot into the top corner to open the scoring.
Comrades could and should have doubled their lead a couple of times in the first half. Instead the home side equalised against the run of play just before half time.
The second half display playing into the strong wind was dominant by the visitors. Nathan Taylor marshalled the defence superbly and his forward run led to the winning goal which was converted by Elian Riley – in the right place at the right time.
Drew Gooding and the other midfield players battled hard in increasingly difficult conditions and Bewdley could have added to their lead when Josh Stokes went through on goal late on but he shot wide.
Man of the match: Elian Riley. As well as two goals was a constant threat and the most potent attacking weapon the Comrades had in an excellent team performance. Great stuff Elian.

Kidderminster Lions Juniors 1
A magnificent performance from the home team (by some distance their best of the season) had them within 8 minutes of holding one of the best teams in the league to a draw. In fact it would have been no more than the Comrades deserved after a superb battling display.
Although the visitors had slightly more of the play in the first half excellent defending from Charlie Lloyd Perks, Nathan Taylor and Josh Stokes, who were ably assisted by Lewis Andrews and Tristan Smith meant they rarely threatened the Comrades goal. When they did Harry Oliver produced a couple of fine saves to keep the scores blank at half time.
Charlie Lloyd Perks took over from Harry in goals for the second half and proved close to unbeatable making a string of wonderful saves. The pattern of the match continued in similar vein to the first half. Elian Riley, Ian Coulthard, James Cooper and Drew Gooding all battled hard and maintained a threat going forward and Luke Coleman’s excellent patience and hard work at centre forward was almost rewarded when he worked himself an opening early in the second half, his shot going narrowly wide.
Eventually Lions pressure was made to count with a scrambled goal which turned out to be the decider. Harry Oliver made his bow at centre forward and his pace and aggression gave the visitors defence cause for alarm – only a superb last ditch tackle prevented another Comrades shot on goal.
The whole team is worthy of great praise and should be proud of their display.
Man of the match: Charlie Lloyd Perks. Rock like at centre half and then simply incredible in goal in the second half. Fantastic stuff Charlie well done!
