Bewdley Town v Cradley Town

Saturday, 29th Oct 2016

West Midlands (Regional) League Premier Division

Town entertained local rivals Cradley Town, looking to extend their fine run and continue moving up the league.
However, the visitors had ideas of spoiling things for Town, and got off to a flying start by taking the lead inside 2 minutes. They forced an early corner which was flicked on by Murray and bundled in from close range by Love. Town very nearly struck back in the 5th minute,  a good move down the left flank involving Ashley Stubbins, Seekings and Pountney saw the ball fall to new signing Maund but his shot was saved by Kennedy in the visitors goal. The 12th minute saw Cradley nearly extend their lead, a long ball found Bala, he played it through to Clarke, his shot beat Steadman but luckily for Town hit the post and bounced away to safety. In the 17th minute the visitors did score again, a clearance by Love was chased by Bala, Steadman raced out of his area and his attempted clearance struck the forward and he ran the ball into the empty net to put them 2-0 in front. 6 minutes later and it got worse for the home side, Rudd was adjudged to have fouled Clarke just outside the 18 yard box, Hill took the free kick, which took a wicked deflection off the wall and wrong footed Steadman, and nestled in the opposite corner to put them 3-0 up. Town then woke up and began to get involved in the game, the 30th minute saw them pull a goal back. Costello won the ball and played it through to Pountney who flicked it wide to Seekings, he beat full back Whitely then sent over a cross that Pountney rose to head in for 1-3. 8 minutes later and Town were back in the game, Ashley Stubbins won a challenge on the half way line and played it through to Maund, he ran to the bi-line then sent a low cross which Pountney latched on to and fired in from close range.

Half time;  Bewdley Town 2 Cradley Town 3.

Town came out for the 2nd half with the sound of managers Mullen and Davies still ringing in their ears and looked by far the better side. They were unlucky not to have drawn level in the 52nd minute, Ashley Stubbins put a pass through for Maund to beat the offside shout and run onto, he cut inside then played it through to Pountney, his shot was blocked by Love but the rebound fell to Maund but his shot, although beat Kennedy, also beat the post. The scores were level in the 55th minute, a deep corner by Seekings found the unmarked head of Costello, and he made no mistake from close range.

The visitors found themselves on the back foot and had their defensive line to thank as Town had 4 further chances cleared off the line.

Final score ; Bewdley Town 3 Cradley Town 3.
