Smethwick FC v Bewdley Town

Saturday, 19th Nov 2016

West Midlands (Regional) League Premier Division

Town travelled the short distance to Dudley to face Smethwick hoping to continue their great run of form and keep rising up the table.

Town attacked immediately from the kick off and very nearly scored inside the 1st minute with an Ashley Stubbins effort going narrowly wide. The 1st half was very much one of Town pushing forward for an opening, but squandering a number of chances and with Steadman a virtual spectator, having to be careful of not leaving themselves open to the counter attack. Town eventually took the lead on the 39th minute, a free kick by Aaron Stubbins was controlled by Pountney on the edge of the 18 yard box before he fired the ball over Shaw into the net.

Half time;
Smethwick 0 Town 1.

The 2nd half began with Town forcing the home side back and had 2 more good chances inside the first 10 minutes to increase their lead. The 70th minute, following a corner to the home side cleared by Ward, saw Morris chase the clearance and outpace Smith before sliding the ball under the advancing Shaw for 2-0 to Town. Town made 2 substitutions before the restart with Orme replacing Martin and Williams on for Ashley Stubbins, however with the midfield subs still looking to get into the game, within a minute of coming on the home side pulled a goal back, a long ball out of defence by Thomas found Brown who beat the offside appeal and fired past Steadman from 18 yards for 1-2.

Town made a further change in the 76th minute with Seekings replacing Wellings, he was immediately involved in the game and won a free kick, Williams sent in the dead ball and Pountney rose to head in his 2nd and Town's 3rd goal. Town were now dominating the game although not playing anything like what they could and in the 83rd minute extended their lead, Ward played the ball out to Williams, he then played it wide to Seekings who easily went past Arshad and sent over a cross that deceived Shaw and struck the post, the ball bounced out and into the path of hitman Pountney, who made no mistake from close range putting Town 4-1 in front. Rampant Town and Pountney scored again a minute later, Orme won the ball on half way and fed Williams, he played it through to Pountney who raced through and lifted the ball over the advancing keeper into the net.

Final score;
Smethwick FC 1 Bewdley Town 5
