Willenhall Town v Bewdley Town

Saturday, 3rd Dec 2016

West Midlands (Regional) League Premier Division

With the weather putting pay to the last couple of home ties including that of the visit of current league leaders Haughmond FC, Town were having to rely on away trips but hoping that not playing for 14 days would not have any adverse effect on the players. They travelled to Bilston, who host Willenhall, hoping to carry on their recent form and achieve another 3 points on the road.

Bewdley, as in their previous away trip, should have taken a very early lead, in the 2nd minute a throw by Graham was flicked on by Martin to Seekings, he sent in a dangerous cross which went through to Morris but he put his shot wide of the post. They pressed forward for the opening goal and at times were caught by the long ball out of defence to leading scorer Birch, but he could not find the target and posed no real threat to Steadman. Town pushed forward more and more and in the 23rd minute finally got their reward, a cross by Seekings found Morris but his header hit the post, he gathered the loose, ball but was brought down rugby style by keeper Lewis for a penalty which Pountney coolly fired in for 1-0 to the visitors.

The 2nd half began very much the way of the 1st with Bewdley on the attack, the were forced to make an early change with Orme replacing Ashley Stubbins in the 53rd minute, he was involved immediately setting up Seekings for him to send in a cross that fell to Morris but his shot was weak and straight at Lewis. The 62nd minute saw Bewdley increase their lead, a through ball from Ellis Stubbins was picked up by Spittle, he was pressed by Pountney and the striker won the ball which he then slotted past Lewis for 2-0. Bewdley made their 2nd and 3rd changes in the 75th minute with Lester replacing Martin and Durbin on for Morris. The 86th minute saw a great move involving 5 Bewdley players resulting in a cross from Rudd being headed in by Lester for 3-0.
