West Midlands (Regional) League Premier Division

Town victors in 11 goal thriller

Town faced Herefordshire side Wellington for the 2nd time in the league in 5 weeks, hoping to gain revenge following the 5-0 drubbing inflicted on them in August.

The game started in somewhat controversial fashion when the visitors should have been reduced to 10 men after only 4 minutes following a foul by keeper Apperley on Martin, Town's striker had been put clear by Orme when the keeper raced out of his box and brought him down, the award was just a free kick and no card of any colour for the lucky shot stopper. The resulting kick was put wide by Pountney. Further efforts from Orme, Seekings and Durbin all followed but the deadline could not be broken, however in the 15th minute Town struck, a Seekings corner was turned into his own net by Price. Town began to push forward even more and in the 24th minute following good work between Stubbins and Orme saw the ball played wide to Durbin, he sent over a deep cross that Stubbins ran on to and volleyed in from just inside the 18 yard box for 2-0 to Town. 3 minutes later and Town were 3 up, Hyde sent in a cross which Durbin laid back to Orme and he fired in from 20 yards. The visitors were relying on the occasional counter attack and from one of these they were helped in reducing the deficit, a long ball out of defence found Morgan, he sent a cross which Ladek, deputising in goal for Steadman, clawed away, the keeper chased the ball and slid in to challenge Jones, the front man went down although the keeper had missed him by a country mile, and a penalty was awarded, Jones stepped up and smashed the ball into the net for 3-1.

Half time;
Town 3 Wellington 1.

The second half began with Town out for more goals and 3 minutes into the half were rewarded, Orme played the ball through to Durbin, he easily beat Williams and hit a cross which Pountney pounced on and fired in from close range. A minute later and the visitors scored, Fischer sent a cross which was turned in by Hunt for 4-2. The 63rd minute saw Town increase their lead, a free kick by Ward was flicked on by Pountney to Marin and he scored from close range. The visitors continued to press and in the 70th minute they again scored, a deep corner fell to Price and he volleyed it past Ladek for 5-3. 4 minutes later and Town scored yet again, Stubbins sent a great ball through to Durbin, he pulled it back to substitute Griffin who fired in from 10 yards, 6-3 Town. In the 84th minute Griffin scored his 2nd and Town's 7th, a long ball by Costello was well controlled by the striker, he turned and fired in from 10 yards. Town scored again in stoppage time, a Seekings corner was headed in Pountney.

Final score;
Bewdley Town 8 Wellington 3.
